Join us for the DCRC Webinar on December 6 at 1:00 PM Central (Chicago) time.

Integrating Our Understanding of Stress Physiology, presented by Erin Horst, Elanco Animal Health.

Description

During this webinar, Horst will explore the mechanisms by which heat stress negatively impacts intestinal integrity, which leads to pathogen infiltration into systemic circulation. Horst will also discuss how similar mechanisms can be applied across a wide variety of stressors that have been previously explored in isolation. Lastly, she will share how intestinal hyperpermeability and subsequent immune activation triggers changes in energetic metabolism and innate immune function.

Horst grew up on a small farrow-to-finish swine operation in Van Horne, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University for her bachelor’s degree in animal science. Following graduation, she stayed at Iowa State and completed a PhD in animal science under the direction of Lance Baumgard. Horst’s research focused on inflammation and its impact on energetic and calcium homeostasis. She has worked as a technical consultant in the dairy industry since 2020 and joined Elanco Animal Health in September of 2022.
